I've worked in advertising photography for more than 20 years. My studio manager Yvette, who was head
of fundraising at her daughter’s school, told me one day she was sick of organizing bake sales and buying
thousands of candy bars to sell to friends and family. Then she told me about her daughter Clarke’s dream
for her 5th grade class. They wanted to go to Astro Camp and gaze at stars through a telescope. They
wanted to see things they had never seen before.
When Yvette told me about Clarke’s dream, I wanted to help; I knew there had to be a better way to do it
than selling candy bars and wrapping paper.
We came up with the idea of getting families together for a high-quality, custom family portrait created
by a professional photographer. Something that captures the love between family members and becomes an heirloom.
We held the first Family Photo Event fundraiser on a beautiful fall weekend. We had a lot of fun, and the
following spring, Clarke’s class went to Astro Camp. They had a blast!
Fundraising can be a real hassle for not much return. A Family Photo Event is different. We bring families
together, we offer them a great value for their money, and the school gets a terrific fundraiser with no
upfront inventory cost. It’s a win/win for everyone.
